Two Top Student-Athletes for 2026 Announced

Sophomores Brooklyn Bowen, the captain of the softball team who was an infielder and pitcher, and Tommy Clarey, an outfielder on the baseball team, have been selected this year's winners of Kalamazoo Valley Community College's highest honor for student-athletes, the coveted Dale B. Lake Award. Bowen graduated with an associate degree in education and Clarey an associate degree in liberal arts on May 3.

In nominating Bowen, Head Softball Coach Lisa Karau cited her work ethic, character and leadership as a player and student. Bowen's athletic accolades include Western Conference All-Freshman and 2nd Team All-Conference.

Head Baseball Coach Steve Bennecke's nomination letter in support of Clarey praised his athletic and academic excellence, work ethic, competitive drive, leadership, enthusiasm, positivity, initiative and desire to constantly improve.

Their future plans? Both Bowen and Clarey plan to attend Western Michigan University.
