Bio:
Coach Balice is in his first season as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Although his first season at the helm, Coach Balice was the interim assistant coach the 2011 season for the Cougars. A former student-athlete at neighboring Western Michigan University, Balice played football while receiving his bachelor’s degrees in both Biomedical Science and Exercise Science.

Balice and his staff initially inherited a program that finished third to last in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association and did not qualify for any post-season play. After completion of the 2012 campaign with Balice at the helm the Cougars finished 3rd overall in the conference play and qualified for not only the MCCAA conference tournament but also the National Junior College Athletic Association regional tournament. Under Balice’s guidance the Cougar netters ranked in the top-50 in the country in kills per set, total attacks, digs, digs per set, and all blocking statistics.

Aside from daily operations, Balice is the head recruiting coordinator and also is in charge of the program’s strength and conditioning. Previous to taking the interim assistant coaching position at KVCC, Coach Balice coached at Heritage Christian Academy (2009-2011) located in Kalamazoo, MI. While at WMU, Balice played on the Men's Club Volleyball team as a middle hitter (2005-2007). Balice has also coached at Dead Frog/FaR Out (DFFO) Volleyball Club for three years (2010-current). Currently, he is the head coach of the DFFO 16 National team but oversees the program’s (seven teams) strength and conditioning/injury prevention program.

"A passion for hard work in academics and athletics were a cornerstone of my collegiate experience and are things that will continue to be the focus of my coaching philosophy." Community service is also something Balice feels strongly about. As a senior on the Bronco football team Balice was awarded the team's Community Service Award. Coach Balice is currently finishing his Masters of Public Health from Michigan State University and resides in Kalamazoo, MI.

Coach Balice's Comments:
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with the returning players and coaching staff. Assistant Coach Reese has proven to be successful at this level and has experience coaching at the Division 1 level. Having him as a co-pilot is a luxury very few programs at the Junior College level have. Also having Ashlyn Burke (Former Cougar All-American setter and Western Michigan University player) as an assistant will be a great addition to our coaching staff as well. I am looking forward to coaching a game that I love and helping form quality student-athletes who are dedicated to bettering themselves on the court, in the classroom, and in the community."
