Kalamazoo Valley's Megan Holland Joins IU Northwest RedHawks


5-10 Forward Starred for 28-2 Cougars

Megan Holland a 5'10" forward From Kalamazoo Valley Community College has agreed to continue her education and collegiate basketball career at Indiana Northwest beginning next Fall. Holland a native of Otsego, MI helped lead Kalamazoo Valley to a 28-2 record in 2011-12 while averaging 11.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting 61% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line. Holland's Cougars climbed to a No. 2 National Ranking, claimed the MCCAA State Championship and advanced to the regional semifinals this past season. Holland tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds in the 84-72 win over Lake Michigan College in the MCCAA title game. She ranked third on the team in scoring, second in rebounding and first in field goal percentage. Earlier Holland poured in 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds in a 124-104 win over Jackson Community College. On February 18, 2012 Holland registered her third straight double-double with a 13 and 11 in a 77-49 rout at Ancilla College

"Megan is a tremendous fit for our program as she brings valuable experience and strength to our frontcourt. She is an impact player and very intelligent on the court, not needing to take a lot of shots to have a significant impact on a game. Megan excels within the design and concept of the offense and is a very solid defender and rebounder," said Indiana Northwest Head Coach Ryan Shelton. This past season, IU Northwest graduated senior post players in All-American Sharon Houston, Ashley Michalski and Kym Daniels. Holland will join talented sophomores Ashley Parish and Michelle Rosenbaum a well as newcomer Paige Finch (Wheeler) in the RedHawks' frontcourt next season."It was a priority to add depth and talent to our front-court positions with this recruiting class. With Megan (Holland) and Paige (Finch) we accomplished both while also adding Megan's valuable experience to a young basketball team. She is a very accurate shooter can step out to three-point range and is a finisher near the basket," added Shelton. Holland's 61% field goal accuracy ranked third nationally amongst junior college players as she was named a third team MCCAA All-Conference selection this past season.

As a prep Holland led Otsego High School to three district championships and three conference titles while shooting better 60% from the field for her career. During her prep career, Otsego compiled a 67-6 varsity record and was unbeaten in conference play for three years. For her efforts Megan was named first team All-County and All-Conference in both her junior and senior seasons. Holland intends to study Radiological Sciences at IU Northwest beginning next Fall and will wear #34 for the RedHawks.
