Annie Roys Ricky Shilts

Annie Roys and Ricky Shilts have been selected as recipients of the prestigious Dale B. Lake Presidential Award for 2002 at KVCC. This award is a yearly endeavor that honors KVCC's founding President, Dale B. Lake, by giving annual recognition to one outstanding male and one outstanding female student-athlete at KVCC. Exceptional academic achievement, as well as outstanding athletic contribution, is given special consideration.

Annie Roys has quarterbacked the nationally ranked women's basketball team for two years, leading them to 5th and 4th place finishes in the NJCAA National Tournament, as well as several conference, state, and regional championships. During her tenure at KVCC, the Cougars sported a remarkable record of 65 wins and only 7 losses.

Annie won All Conference honors both seasons, including First Team All Conference in her sophomore year. Last year she also won All State and All Region honors and was nominated for NJCAA All American status in Region XII. She also has been the recipient of Academic All Conference and Academic All State recognition while at KVCC. Annie left KVCC with a 3.51 GPA in 59 hours passed. She is majoring in Secondary Education, and has transferred to Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, to pursue her Bachelor's Degree.

Ricky Shilts has been a two sport participant here at KVCC. He averaged 10.5 points per game on last year's Cougar basketball squad. In addition, his 69 three pointers moved him toward the top of all time KVCC long range bombers, while his .426 three point percentage accuracy also ranked him in the top five shooters in the state last year. In addition, Ricky's 79.2 average won him MVP honors on last year's MCCAA State Championship golf squad. Ricky won All Conference honors in golf as well. Ricky is an Elementary Education major and sports a 3.12 GPA with 32 hours passed after his freshman year.

"Both Annie and Ricky represent the best of what college athletics is about," remarked Athletic Director Dick Shilts. "They demonstrate leadership, enthusiasm, and loyalty in all they do. All of us at KVCC take pride in what they have accomplished, and, more importantly, in who they are."
